Introducing...

In 2003 Somerset Film opened The Engine Room an accessible community media centre located in Bridgwater’s High Street. The centre co-ordinates all our activity as well as providing a public coffee bar with internet access and facilities including licensed cinema, studio and edit suites.

Access, information and exhibition underpin our services. Each week The Engine Room opens to give the general public 17 hours of free access to equipment and expertise through sessions called ‘Drop-ins’. Staffed by a professional film-maker, the drop-ins ensure that people of all ages and abilities can practice their skills, have access to specialised equipment and get advice and information. Equipment hire and courses are all priced to ensure financial accessibility.

Activities include courses, master classes, tailor-made workshops and training schemes, work experience
and bursary placements, networking events, annual festival and specialist events such as Women in Film Day.

Courses are available for all levels of ability, from the beginner with no previous computer experience through to the professional needing to explore new technology.
Open to participants of all ages the courses cover a range
of subjects including filmmaking, animation, web design, graphic design, digital photography, scriptwriting and VJ-ing. These are delivered at The Engine Room and other venues across the county.
